About Scary Jerry
Throughout my life, the absurdities of being alive have been attacking me from all sides—and they pour back out onto the page and stage in different forms. Why they’ve singled me out as a target, I have no idea.
Moving from California to Sweden in 1989 unleashed a stream of surrealism I can hardly keep up with, still, to this day. Sharing it has become a way to slow the onslaught and connect through the bizarre.
Stand-up comedy has been a longtime dream, but life’s curveballs—divorce, raising kids, exhaustion, depression, and a healthy dose of scared-shitless-itis—kept getting in the way.
When my sister died, I realized I had to do this while I’m still alive. I’m just really hoping not to die onstage.
Now, new to the stage but not to the scary worlds I’ve been inhabiting in my mind, I bring material that leans into language, culture, and the surreal absurdities of everyday life. I tell truths with a slant, which often turn into a slippery slope I end up sliding right down.
Above all, I’m celebrating life, one laugh, or lack thereof, at a time.
